At present there are over 50 arts and cultural festivals and events that take place around the county annually, including a number of surfing and walking festivals, summer schools and special events which are the backbone of arts and cultural activity in Sligo City and County throughout the year.
Sligo has a strong tradition of hosting annual festivals and in recent years the number of grass roots festivals organised by local people have grown to become regular fixtures on the festival calendar. In the last 12 months there have been more additions with yet another inaugural festival taking place in County Sligo in 2011.
