Bealtaine Sligo 2017 Feature

'Archiving Activism' Exhibition and Radio Broadcast

by Artist Breda Burns

Friday 5th May, The Model, Sligo

Artist Breda Buns has been commissioned by Bealtaine Festival 2017 in partnership with Sligo County Council Arts Service and Mayo County Council Arts Office to develop 'Archiving Activism' in response to the Bealtaine 2017 theme of "the Collective".

A society only progresses when citizens care enough to contribute to its fabric and its future.  The arts are the mortar that holds society together and counties Sligo and Mayo are particularly blessed with the contribution that its citizens have made in this field.  These people are often the unsung architects of a thriving society where people can access music, visual arts and literature in so many different ways.

Breda Burns has developed this this project through collating an archive of these vanguards of the arts community, conducting a series of radio interviews to be broadcast locally, creating an archive of ephemara relating the artist-led movement in the Sligo/Mayo region.  An 'Archiving Activism Manifesto' will be published with a commissioned text by author Brian Leyden in response to the archive.

This exhibition runs until May 14th.
