Individual Artist Bursary Scheme 2011

 

Sligo County Council Arts Service Grants and Bursary Scheme for 2011 is now closed. The next call for applications will be in Spring / Summer 2012.

 

Sligo County Council Arts Service Artist Bursary Scheme supports individual professional artists with a small budget for the development of their arts practice, to buy time, space and freedom to concentrate on a new body of work. With €15,000 in total available, twelve bursaries and one award were successful of the fifty-six that were submitted. 

 

With their bursaries visual artists Michael Wann concentrates on a body of work from his Sligo studio in The Model, Aidan Crottydevelops new work with a camera obscura mobile unit, Heidi Wickham’s Charcoals from her Burnt Wood collection were exhibited in Sligo and tour to Dublin in the Autumn. IT Sligo Fine Art Degree graduate Shane Finan is currently on an NES International Artists Residency in Iceland, arts educator Sue Morris will use the bursary to create a large format multimedia show and sculptor Bettina Seitzprepares new work in aluminium and bronze for an exhibition in London.  

 

Musician Stephanie Pawula introduces the cavaquihno technique into traditional Irish music, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre will welcome poet Peggy Gallagher in November 2011 and Niamh O’Connor attends the Postgraduate Certificate in Arts in Healthcare settings.

 

In theatre, Breege Brennan directed the award winning comedy-drama The Blonde, The Brunette and the Revengeful Redhead which toured the country in July, Emma Meehan will perform new work through movement and the spoken word and actor John Carty of the Blue Raincoat Theatre Company will attend a Realisation of a Vocal Project Masterclass later this year.
