Ballymote Heritage Group was founded in May 1984.

Ballymote Heritage Weekend, a great historical festival in Ballymote, County Sligo, commences its official opening on Friday night with lectures delivered each night. Four lectures and three outings focussed on topics or sites of historical, archaeological or cultural interest, all in a highly enjoyable and sociable atmosphere. Other activities include daily trips to historical and ancient places of interest.
