Annual Bealtaine Festival Art Exhibition

Saturday 1st May
Primary Care Unit, Markievicz House, Sligo

This wonderful art exhibition is a collection of artwork created by members of active age and retirement art groups throughout county Sligo. This exhibition will run at the Primary Care Unit until March 2011.


Intergenerational Performance Afternoon

Wednesday 5th May, 1.30pm
Ballymote Nursing Unit, County Sligo
An afternoon of music, song, stories and dance to celebrate the completion of the two-year Ballymote Intergenerational Arts Project by students from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál National School and older residents of the Community Nursing Unit.


Cos Cos Sean Nós Festival Evening Session

Wednesday 5th May, 6pm – 8pm
Rathcormac Hall, Drumcliffe, County Sligo
The Cos Cos Festival links with Bealtaine Sligo 2010 to celebrate older musicians and their music, with a session of music, dance and song. All are welcome, admission is free.   www.coscos.ie


Cos Cos Sean Nós Flag Exhibition 

Thursday 6th – Sunday 9th May
Rathcormac Hall, Drumcliffe, County Sligo

Ballinafad Active Retirement, Ballintogher Active Age, Easkey Active Age and Skreen Day Care Centre have worked with local artists Joe Helder, Laura Mahon and Sherrie Scott to create a colourful outdoor installation using musical imagery.  www.coscos.ie

 
Film Première ‘Seeing the Hidden’

Friday 7th May, 12noon
Gaiety Cinema, Wine Street, Sligo

The Film Shorts ‘Seeing the Hidden’ explore the cultural richness of our community. The theme of the film shorts is on looking from the inside out, seeing the hidden, valuing the creativeness that works to build, benefit and grow our community. Five short films feature local areas Killavil, Skreen, Ballinafad, Gleniff Horseshoe Area (Ballintrillick) and Sligo Harbour.

During the Bealtaine Festival, ‘Seeing the Hidden’ will be screened in numerous venues throughout the county. A copy of the film shorts will be made available to local Nursing Homes, Day Care Centres, Active Ages Groups and any interested groups who are unable to attend one of the screening events. Enjoy an afternoon of superb participatory storytelling in the scenic surroundings of Rathcormac.  All ages welcome. In association with writer Maura Gilligan and the Cos Cos Sean Nós Festival.


Golden Moments

Tuesday 18th May, 2pm
Avalon Community Centre, Chapel Street, Sligo
Readings, humour and music focusing on the memories and legends of life that never fail to surprise and enchant us, will be performed by the members of the Avalon Golden Years Arts and Health Group.


Intergenerational Art Exhibition

Wednesday 19th May, 1.30pm
Atrium Gallery, Nazareth House Nursing Home, Church Hill, Sligo
For the past two years students from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál National School and older residents of the Community Nursing Unit in Ballymote, students from St John’s National School and older residents from Nazareth House Nursing Home, Sligo town, have participated in Intergenerational Arts Projects. To celebrate the conclusion of the projects, both groups will come together to create a collaborative exhibition celebrating their creative journey since 2008.


Animation Film ‘Constance Markievicz’

Friday 21st May, 11am
St Patrick’s National School Maugherow, County Sligo 
Since February 2010, The Legacy of Belief Intergenerational Arts Project involved 77 students from St Patrick’s National School and the Maugherow Active Age Group who worked together to explore the life-story of Constance Markievicz the painter, feminist, soldier, wife, mother, and politician. The outcome of this Intergenerational Arts & History Project takes the form of an animation film entitled ‘Constance Markievicz’.


Film Screenings ‘Seeing the Hidden’

The film shorts have been commissioned by Sligo Arts Service for Bealtaine Sligo 2010. Artists collaborating on the project are Filmmaker Caroline Clancy, Visual Artist Catherine Fanning, Writer and Poet Dermot Healy, Photographer James Fraher and Writer Maura Gilligan.
