Radical Actions Seminar and Eat your Children film screening

RADICAL ACTIONS SEMINAR

Curated by Linda Shevlin, Radical Actions is a three part international commemoration project. It takes the form of an exhibition of Irish artists Kennedy Browne (Gareth Kennedy/Sarah Browne), Duncan Campbell, Jesse Jones and Seamus Nolan at RMIT Galleries, Melbourne Australia; the exhibition Bernadette by Duncan Campbell at Roscommon Arts Centre and the final installment will take the form of a seminar in the historic setting of King House, Boyle.

This seminar will look at the legacy of revolution and activism in Ireland and the artists' role in shaping future states with speakers including Professor Luke Gibbons, artists Sarah Browne, Jesse Jones, Gareth Kennedy and Seamus Nolan, film maker Treasa O’Brien and photojournalist/videographer Paula Geraghty.

 

SCREENING 

Eat Your Children

A special screening of the film Eat Your Children directed/written by Treasa O'Brien and co-directed/written by Mary Jane O’Leary will form part of the seminar. Eat Your Children documents the evolution of protest in modern day Ireland.

Seminar Schedule:

Dublin train to Boyle departs 8am, arrives Boyle station 10.27am
Bus Eireann from Bus Aras departs at 8am, arrives King House 11am

11.20am:  Welcome and introduction by curator Linda Shevlin
11.30am:  Screen Memories: Popular Imagery and the Rising. Prof. Luke Gibbons
12.15pm:  Screening Eat Your Children
 
1.40pm:  Lunch
 
2.40pm:  Panel: The Evolution of Protest
Film maker Treasa O’Brien and photojournalist and videographer Paula Geraghty (Trade Union TV). Chair: Johnny Gogan, film maker and activist. 

This panel will be discussing how protest has evolved and changed in modern Ireland, how we articulate our dissatisfaction. If not through protest, what are the preferred means? 
 
3.15pm:  Break
 
3.30pm:  Panel: The Artist as Activist
With artists Sarah Browne, Jesse Jones, Gareth Kennedy and Seamus Nolan. Chair: Liz Burns, Curator & Wexford Arts Officer.
Each of these artists exhibited work in Radical Actions Australia. This panel will discuss their work, practice and beliefs around the artists role in imagining future states.
 
4.15pm:  Finish. Wine Reception
