Sligo Fun Palace Programme Announced

The annual, free, worldwide celebration of arts, science and culture comes to Sligo for the first time. Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo will join 150+ Fun Palaces expected to pop up globally on Saturday 1st October. Fun Palaces are created by and for local people, bringing communities together with arts, science and cultural activities for all to enjoy for free, celebrating the genius in everyone – everyone an artist, everyone a scientist.

Come along at 2pm, Saturday 1st October and take part in the following FREE events.

 

Mexician Day of The Dead Facepainting for Adults with Maresa McGovern

Make a striking entrance this Halloween by attending this tutorial by Maresa McGovern. This session will take you step by step on how to apply the popular Sugar Skull style.  Sugar Skulls are a colourful traditional folk art from Southern Mexico used to celebrate Dia de los Muertos which have gained global popularity in recent years.  Maresa creates beautiful and complex SFX make-up effects which you can view on her Instagram gallery @maresajudy.  This workshop is suitable for 16 years and upwards. This tutorial begins at 2pm, duration 1 hour.

 

Printmaking with Artist Maria Bagnoli

A graduate of Camberwell Art school, London with BA Hons in painting, artist Maria Bagnoli has hosted many workshops in the U.K. Scotland, Italy & Portugal. Since moving to Ireland in 2001 she has joined Leitrim sculpture centre for print making and exhibited in group shows and solo shows. On printing she says “Painting, drawing and printmaking for me are processes and I like to discover what the mediums can do as much as making an image. I work from nature as a starting point. Critical awareness is of importance to me, as is development and change.”

Maria welcomes both adults and families to take part in her printmaking workshop. Places are limited and will be allocated on first come basis. This workshop begins at 2pm, duration 90mins.

 

'An Introduction to All-Grain Brewing' with Oliver Alcorn

Home- brewing is a hobby that is growing in popularity. There is immense satisfaction of sourcing your favourite ingredients and creating your own beverages.   There is a bewildering amount of information on-line and with so many books about where to start it can be overwhelming. Let home-brewer Oliver Alcorn guide you on how to begin with all grain brewing and hear tales of what worked and what didn’t work for him in this informal session. This talk begins at 2pm, duration 1 hour.

 

Identity and Preserve our native flowers with Eithne Davis, I.T.Sligo

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to gather, identify and preserve our own native flowers for use in craft projects. Eithne Davis is a PhD Research Student in I.T. Sligo, studying the prevention, eradication and control of invasive alien species. A native of Sligo and an environmental scientist, she has a great love of the outdoors and a keen interest in the biodiversity of different habitats.  This workshop combines a short collecting walk and information session and is a great way to connect with the nature around Sligo.  This workshop will be of interest to gardeners, craft makers and will leave you with a deeper appreciation of the world around us.  This workshop begins at 2pm, duration 90mins.
