World Premiere announced for Sligo International Chamber Music Festival this May bank holiday weekend!

We are delighted to announce a world premiere performance at Midday on May Day 2017. Gerald Barry’s Midday, for two string quartets, was written in response to a co-commission by RTÉ and Sligo County Council and will be performed by The Vogler Quartet and RTÉ Contempo Quartet. The composer describes the music as '...standing still in the landscape, listening, watching, waiting.’ This concert at Drumcliffe Church, which will be recorded for future broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm, will open with an interview between composer Gerald Barry and Michael Dungan.

Now in its eighteenth year Sligo International Chamber Music Festival, formerly Music in Drumcliffe, has become one of Ireland’s leading international chamber music festivals and is now a highlight in the annual calendar of music events.

Under Artistic Director Tim Vogler, the festival offers its loyal audience and new visitors alike the opportunity to experience high standards of programming through a fresh choice of artists. Festival guests this year include RTÉ Contempo Quartet, Hugh Tinney, Ib Hausmann, clair-obscur saxophone trio, Amatis piano trio, Cassiopeia Winds performing alongside the internationally acclaimed ensemble-in-residence, the Vogler Quartet.

Following the success of our first youth programme last year, we continue our collaboration with key partners Music Generation Sligo and Sligo County Council to present Tuned In! Our unique and innovative youth programme is curated this year by Professor James Cavanagh from the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

Sligo International Chamber Music festival takes place this May bank holiday weekend, Friday 28th April – Monday 1st May 2017, at Drumcliffe Church and The Model Sligo.
