REWARDING SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY - CATHAOIRLEACH'S AWARDS SCHEME 2015 LAUNCHED

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady has encouraged the people of County Sligo to reward the many ‘unsung heroes’ who carry out invaluable voluntary work in their local communities.  

The Cathaoirleach’s Awards Scheme was previously administered between 2000 and 2009, and is being revived by Councillor O’Grady’ To reward the many people who have given special service to their community.’

The Award categories are:

• Community (Individual)
• Community (Group)
• Environment
• Sport
• Schools
• Young Enterprise
• Spirit of Sligo Award
• Arts and Culture

Launching the 2015 Awards, the Cathaoirleach said ‘The award categories encompass a wide area of voluntary activity, and I feel that there are many people throughout county Sligo who are fully deserving of an award. It is encouraging to see so many people giving selflessly of their time and energy for their community, and as a society we should never take this for granted.’

The Cathaoirleach continued ‘I would encourage people who hold someone in the community in high regard, to take ten minutes to complete a form and nominate them for an award. The scheme in effect is a ‘celebration of community’ and our committee looks forward to acknowledging and honouring the special volunteers who have given special service to their community.’

The category winner will be presented with their awards at a ceremony in County Hall on Wednesday 16^th December.  Nomination forms and details of the scheme are available from   Corporate Services Section, Sligo County Council, Riverside, Sligo, Phone 071 911 1018.
