Emma Meehan has a background is in physical theatre and movement, and has have worked as a performer with Irish companies such as Púca Puppets, Tall Tales Theatre Company, The Corn Exchange, Painted Filly Theatre, and Arambe Productions.
She have recently submitted her doctoral thesis at Trinity College, Dublin, on the performances of Irish experimental dancer and choreographer Joan Davis. Alongside this research, Emma has been training with Davis and devising her own work using Davis's somatic movement approach.
Between February and May 2010, she took part in the Dublin City Council “Incubation Space” programme, where she received mentoring from Margot Jones (actor), Margaret Lonergan (visual artist) and Niamh Lawlor (puppeteer) in developing new work. From this period of research, Emma performed an installation/performance piece called “Wellness Sensorium” as part of Transversal, curated by Fergus Byrne and Deirdre Murphy at Block T, Smithfield, Dublin. Emma has also been curating a seminar series on the relationship between arts practice and research at the Centre for Creative Practices, Dublin.
